What is a dating scan?
Also called the 12 week scan is an ultrasound scan done between 8 and 14 weeks of pregnancy to help estimate the baby’s due date. A dating scan measures the baby and helps the doctor estimate how long a woman has been pregnant and when the baby is due.
Why is dating scan important?
To have an accurate estimated due date (or EDD) for the baby so you can have the recommended tests at the right time.

When is a dating scan done?
